Looking to the Future The Voyage of the SS Jeanie Johnston II

Welcome to IrishSpace on the Web

Please observe the Requirements before Proceeding

"The Voyage of the SS Jeanie Johnston II" was created in 1997 for a special exhibition on Space Exploration at the Kerry County Museum in Tralee, Ireland. All the work was done by a volunteer group who met and worked collaboratively only through the Internet.

This fictional space adventure takes the viewer out to all the planets of the Solar System. It is a long story, taking well over an hour to traverse all the scenes.

NOTE: All the scenes have *NOW* been translated to this new format. You can follow the story from the beginning, all the way through to the exploration of the Ice Castle on Pluto.

REQUIREMENTS:
1.
Your Browser should be set to full screen at 800 by 600. In addition, you should turn off all toolbars, in order to maximize the graphical area in the Browser window (at the museum, the application ran in "kiosk" mode, with no Browser interface elements showing.) If you are running in a higher screen resolution (1024 x 768 or greater), you may adjust the Browser window to approximate 800 by 600 pixels.
2. The 3-dimensional, interactive scenes have been created in VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language), so this presentation requires a VRML97 plugin. It is fine-tuned specifically for
CosmoPlayer 2.1.
3. It also requires a WWW Browser with good Java support. We recommend Netscape 4.04 or later, or Internet Explorer 4.0+.
4. And you will find that a very fast Internet connection (better than 28.8 bits per second) will be necessary because of the significant downloads between scenes. The audio files are streamed (they do not have to download completely before beginning to play), but the coordination of the audio with the visuals will be hampered by slow access times.
